I know I'm being very informal but hey, if I'm informal you're more likely to read it.
1. Thou must not flame, troll, or spam.
Pretty straight forward rule I think. Don't hurt people, don't offend people, and don't annoy the hell out of people. Yeah, pretty straight forward.
2. Thou must convey thine intent with correct grammar and spelling.
Oh my gosh I suck at this. This is harder than trying writing fake 文言文. (ahem) Please capitalize your sentences, spell your words right, and add a period at the end of each sentence. It's okay if you decide to press 'Enter' after every sentence. Just make sure you look civil. Think about it. Would an alumnus want to answer this question:
"LIEK THIS IF U CRAI EVERYTIEM AND MAI NAVIANCE SUCKS CRAP MUCH DISGUST"
or this question?
"Where can I request teacher recommendations on Naviance? I have looked in the 'About Me' section, but I can't seem to find it."
The latter, right? Yeah. Capitalization shows you know your stuff. Capitalization shows you can write an essay. Capitalization shows you deserve to go to college and you're not a panting dog that doesn't know his paws from his nose, right? ...Wait.
3. Thou... I give up. This is too hard and you probably can't understand my broken Shakespearean English, anyway.
4. Please look at the FAQ section and use the search bar for what it's meant for BEFORE you ask a question.
Most of the time if you have a question about the college application process, somebody asked it already. Somebody answered it already, too. Go find that thread. That's why we made a forum and not a Facebook group. FOR THE HISTORY, YA FEEL ME.
If you can't find your question in the FAQ or the board where your question is categorized, like "Naviance" for Naviance-related questions, use the search bar. The question may have been misplaced because...I was eating a cookie and I forgot about it. Make sure the question does not have a predecessor before asking.
5. Ask around.
We are here to help you. Your teachers and your counselor are, too. So ask everyone you can, use your resources to their full extent!
6. PM a staff member if you have something to share.
If you have an answered question that you believe a lot of people must be mulling over, too, tell us! We love extra helpers who share their information with us! Just sidle over to the 'Message' tab at the top of the page and PM a staff member or me! We'll add your answered question to the database. Thanks in advance!
Thank you for reading that, you deserve a cookie and a pat on the back! Maybe some ice cream, too! Mmm...ice cream...(cough) Now go forth and ask / answer away!
By the way, we have an enforcement system. You might want to read that thread, too.
