First question, I guess. See subject. There are so many different qualities about colleges to compare; sometimes I have doubts whether the qualities that I listed in my spreadsheet are the important ones, the ones that will affect me the most. How much will the weather affect me? What about the distance from the city or downtown? Am I focusing too much on the student body clubs or culture, since I'm primarily going for an education and diploma? So, to alumni: What do you think are the most important things to research and know about our colleges as we research them? I'm especially interested in things you would have done differently --- college qualities that you didn't think about too much but turned out to affect you a lot, or that you researched extensively but actually didn't affect you much. Thanks

Every college is different. Different colleges require research focusing on different things depending on the nature of the college itself. For example, Rice University has this unique thing called Residential Colleges that are integral to school spirit and life. It's also important to point out that you may choose whatever focus you want depending on what YOU care about in a college. Thus, there's nothing wrong about focusing too much on something that you really care about in a college. However, it is good to kind of research on all the aspects so that you become familiarized with it as a whole. I personally really focused on school spirit, location, food, and nature of academics. They all affected me a lot since those are what I care about. If you really like a college, researching extensively on one field seriously won't hurt despite how important it is.
